The Leader also highlighted the necessity of making scientism the main discourse of society.
By formulating a comprehensive scientific plan for the country with a specific time frame and strategy, higher levels of modern science and technology can be attained, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
He pointed out that Iran has many talented university students and expert university professors, adding that focusing on both the formulation of scientific theories and basic sciences is the best way to ensure the country’s scientific development movement blooms.
The country’s scientific advancement is a process whose way should be paved from the most primary to the highest educational courses and levels, the Leader observed, adding that the government, the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, and other relevant organizations are responsible for devising the plan for scientific advancement.
However, the required budget for scientific development stipulated in the Fourth Development Plan should be provided from the Gross National Product, otherwise scientific development will be impossible, he noted.
Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized the need to create and develop science and technology parks in the country, adding that establishing a foundation of Iranian elites would encourage Iranian researchers to undertake more serious scientific projects.
Integrity, curiosity, and understanding are some of the most distinguished characteristics of the youth, and by making proper use of these characteristics and offering a proper response to the scientific and religious demands of the youth, an appropriate atmosphere can be created for the promotion of religious understanding and education at universities, the Leader said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei called for efforts to help sharpen the political acumen and analytical capabilities of university students, saying that university students should have an active presence in all constructive political activities.
In conclusion, he said that the ground should be paved at universities for students’ political movements so that they can strengthen their commitment to national interests and avoid becoming pawns in the hands of foreign countries.
